No matter if your family is more of an indoor or outdoor type, a rainy day is nothing to frown at! It can bring its own set of adventures and activities to keep your family engaged and enjoying the day together. Depending on the age of your children or what they are into at the moment, there can be a lot of easy to do at-home crafts, DIYs, or simplistic things to be done.
1. Bake
This may seem like a super simple answer, but that is because it is. Even if you don’t have the out-of-the-box brownie or cookie mix, you more than likely have the ingredients to make homemade versions of these.
This can be a great way to teach your kids about measurements and simple hand-eye coordination skills, while also making some delicious food to eat after the hard work.
2. Treasure Hunt
Having a treasure hunt will take a small amount of planning on you and your partner, however, it will have a great reward in the end.
You can either write our clues in simple riddles or with a drawn-out map that you have made of the house. These will show your kids where to go and where to go to find the big treasure in the end. It can help teach your child problem-solving skills and patience as well.
While they are running about doing the treasure hunt, it can also give you and your partner a little one-on-one time as well.
3. Make Your Own Movie Theater
This can combine two very fun ideas in one. A pillow fort, and a movie marathon. Go tell your kids to grab all the pillows and blankets from all over the house while you construct a base for the pillow fort, most likely in front of the TV.
It can create a darker “room” perfectly for movie immersion. Then, a nice bowl of popcorn with those delicious homemade cookies you all just met, your children will be occupied for hours, or at least however long the movie is.
3. Keep it Traditional
Stick with the basics. This could mean board games, simple games like hide and seek or red light green light, or even coloring books. You could teach the kids how to play Monopoly or how to place a simple game of poker. This would be a great way to create memories while also teaching them new skills.
Another great one could be to have a family fashion show. To find the wackiest outfits in your closet and show them off to each other.
In the end, rain doesn’t have to be a debbie downer, it can be just as great as going out to the park or seeing a proper movie. Having small at-home adventures like these can also be great for the little ones to create memories with their parents and to possibly help spark any interests or hobbies they might get more into down the road.
